All those who wander are not necessarily lost...
After years of dreaming and travelling around we decided to head off again. We
are a young dutch couple and our two, somewhat enthousiastic, dutch sheep dogs.

Youth Incentives, together with partners in six countries, undertakes the
RAP-song project: young people from all over the world
are making a RAP-song of issues concerning their Sexual and Reproductive Health
and Rights. We will visit some of their projects in Africa and in our own RAP-road project
we will add more countries to this list...

| South Africa is the last country in Africa that we visited on this trip. Although we had to arrange quite a few things for our return trip, we also had time so see some of the beauty of this country.
We had quite a few adventures in Namibia. This was one of them....
| Zambia is in our expercience the last real African country on this journey. We enjoyed it a lot with visiting the great South Luangwa National Park and seeing and feeling the mighty Victoria Falls.
In Kenya we have seen our first big animals like zebra, giraffe, hippo, buffalo, wildebeast and more but only two of the Big Five so we look further....
| We enjoyed Ethiopia very much although there are lots of people everywhere. Still Ethiopia is a fascinating country with beautiful nature and lots of culture and history.
A beautiful Nubian woman with her child along the way from Wadi Halfa to Dongola in Sudan.
| Egypt. Ancient civilisations, hustlers and too many people. We have been here before, but we are still impressed by all of those. This is the gateway to Africa. And what a gateway!
We visited the Humane Center For Animal Welfare in Jordan and were impressed by the good work they do and how they do it. We added pictures of this exceptional project.
| In Turkey we saw our first mosque again. While the believers are called to their faith from the high minarets, we know that our journey has really begun.
We draw some attention, wherever we go. Here we are visited by four stray cats. Especially Doerak and Djennis find this interesting, but we decided to keep them inside. Four is a little too much for our little ones!
| We visited our friends Ron and Trees in the Drome in the South of France where Trees left their mark on our bus.
A nice gift before we head into the unknown! We had a lovely time, thanks friends!
We have left. We are now oficially Nomads. No other home than our bus, no bosses who nag about work to be done
and all the time in the world. That is, we have some stamps in our passport indicating the latest possible
day to enter some countries, but between now and than we (and only we!) decide what we do, where we go
and how we get there. This is called freedom! Takes a few years of hard work to realise... We look forward
to meeting new people, visiting exiting places and doing absolutely nothing some of the time!
In the weekend of the 1th of October the Dubbellucht meeting took place. Around 300 Mercedes busses in all sizes and shapes came together. For us a last chance to work with other Mercedes freaks on the bus (thanks Detlev!) and to say goodbye to a lot of nice people.

| From the 10th till the 12th of August the largest gathering of travellers to Africa took place in Switzerland: Voodoo Treffen.
In three beautiful days lots of stories were swapped, vehicles watched and tricks exchanged. For pictures, click here.

Wil of the DA was kind enough to sponsor us with a big bag full of daily care and health products. These will come in handy on our trip! Thank you Wil!
| After only two days our house was sold! A big hand from our real estate agency and now
it is certain: from the first of September we will be true Nomads. No home but the whole world!
For some this is scary, for us it means freedom. No mortgage, no (or at least a lot less) taxes
and no unwanted mail. We have enjoyed our house but we will especially miss our toilet (we build
the floor out of tiles from our previous trip into Africa ;-)).

In our preparations for our trip we decided to sell most of our stuff. At
least, what we would not need on the road. A good moment for this is the
free market at 30th April, what we call 'Koninginnedag'. Why there is a free
market in the Netherlands on that date is a long story, but it has something to
do with the birthday of our former queen. Some more photo's can be seen here.
| Africa has always been our dream. This continent has been plagued by
disasters, to which only recently HIV has been added. We would like to give our
little support where possible. Therefore we work together
with Youth Incentives.

Youth Incentives is the International Programme on Sexuality, which has been
developed by Rutgers Nisso Groep, the expert centre on sexuality in the
Netherlands. The succesfull approach used in the Netherlands is also applied in
other countries. We will help them with our RAP-Road project (see below).
Also we will visit and aid some of the projects
in Africa. |
| We have acquired our Nomad, a sturdy Mercedes 508 bus, almost as
old as us. We will take here into the darker parts of Africa. She is also not
very fast, but very reliable (they say!). She will be our home for our
adventure. So she has to be prepared...
